Sweden is quite the historic country. Not only has it produced a number of well-known celebrities and figures in history, but it also has some fascinating behind the country itself! Today, we’ll dive right into that and take a look at some of the most well-known Swedish people and things.

PewDiePie

Starting off this list is perhaps the most well-known current living Swede, and that is YouTube star, PewDiePie. Nearing on nearly 63 million subscribers, has easily become the biggest internet sensation since YouTube and other social platforms have been created.

His real name is Felix Kjellberg, and he was born and raised in the town of Gothenburg, Sweden. If you aren’t familiar with his work, he’s most well known for his gameplay/commentary videos on YouTube and has built his entire brand around these types of videos. Although a bit of controversy has been placed around him lately, he still remains easily the largest YouTube star of all-time.

Vikings

The Vikings were quite the interesting group of people to say the least. They’re time on the earth was from around 700 to 1100 AD, lasting about 400 years. There were three primary categories of the Scandinavian Vikings:

Merchants: Typically sold goods and traded.

Varangians- Known in today’s terms as mercenaries, constantly seeking a job abroad.

The “Viking”- Known for robbery and being a well-trained warrior.

Zlatan Ibrahimović

Ibrahimović is easily one of the largest sport personalities in the world, let alone in the sport of soccer. He is most well-known for being a long-time star of the famous soccer club, PSG (Paris Saint-Germain). Currently however, he is apart of the MLS and plays for the L.A. Galaxy.

He is a highly decorated talent, winning many league titles and competing at high-levels with the Swedish national team. Besides his fame obviously in Sweden, he has become an icon at the international level, being praised in France, and now, the United States for his abilities on and off the pitch.

Pippi Longstocking

Sweden is also home to one of the most popular children’s character for some time in Pippi Longstocking. Known for her red-hair and odd super-human strength, Pippi is a unique character and is known for her huge personality and her playfulness.

The first book was published in 1945, with the last being written in 1948. The books were later translated into English much later, and the character stars in many films and some TV shows, such as Shirley Temple, eventually getting her own show in 1969.

It is based off the Swedish book “Men Who Hate Women”. In 2012, it had nearly 7 and a half million downloads online, ranking it the 7th most downloaded movie.

The film has received nearly all positive reviews, holding a current rating of %86 on Rotten Tomatoes. The book series that the movie bases itself off is equally as popular, especially in its home country of Sweden.
