Scandinavia In Winter: Granö Beckasin
Scandinavia in winter is the perfect spot for winter adventure. Dog sledding, snowmobile, hiking the frozen landscape and sleeping under the northern lights.
Scandinavia in Winter Getaway
For my girlfriends 30th Birthday I decided to take her on a Scandinavia in the winter city getaway. I heard there was no better place than Scandinavia in December or January in the winter. The location, the far north to a place called Granö. The furthest north I had ever gone in my British life. To go to where no London boy has gone before.
Scandinavia in Winter – True Nordic Experience
When I was young I dreamed of exploring the world’s most treacherous terrains (don’t ask me why? I was a weird kid). This included the frozen tundras of the arctic land. Scandinavia in winter by far is the closest to achieving this dream and I just so happen to live in Sweden now! I enlisted the help of travel agency gotonordic.com who were able to book a 3-day weekend to the gateway of Lapland: Granö Backensin. A laid-back rural cabin lodge with dining based at the shores of beautiful Ume river surrounded by nature. We slept in the bird’s nest cabin up high in the tree canopy. Literally, a cabin built in the treetop like a giant luxury birds nest.
They arranged our flights, car rental, meals and activities which included dog sledding and snowmobile tour. Highly recommended! If you are looking for a true winter experience then visiting Granö Backensin is the best place to go. You get the chance to be an explorer and enjoy luxury accommodation, 5-star homemade fine dining.
Scandinavia in Winter – Exploring outside the comfort zone
As a London City boy, I always dreamed of an alternative lifestyle to the hustle of the city. I never had much opportunity for this growing up as an inner city kid from the streets of South London. Since moving to Sweden I have been fortunate to experience many things related to enjoying the outdoors. Going to Granö gave me a chance to go outside my comfort zone and try something new. Granö is the ultimate nature adventure. You can do fun activities such as hiking, winter snowmobile, camping and dog sledding. This has shown me how to really enjoy winter time. See the activities here.
Scandinavia in Winter – Perfect wonderland
Usually, the last place I think of going is Scandinavia in winter. I am usually a beach and sun person. However, I decided to make the most of winter since moving to Sweden. Why not go all the way and see what Sweden has to offer right? So I decided to get as far away from the city as possible to achieve this experience. To get to Granö Beckasin it was a 1-hour flight from Stockholm to Skellefteå and then another 2-hour drive to Granö. To get the most out of nature, you are going to have to leave the city and learn to enjoy Friluftsliv. At Granö Beckasin, you will learn to enjoy the ”mysigt” (Swedish for cosy) feeling in a ‘Hygge’ style cabin. With all the added perks of breakfast brought to your room, Scandinavian fine dining, winter activities and breathtaking Nordic scenery.
Conclusion
I was a pessimist about staying in Scandinavia in the winter but now I have been converted!
